Lowveld Gin Festival 2019 – Local Featured Gins
KWV Cruxland Gin
Crowned the ‘Best South African London Dry Gin’ at the 2019 World Gin Awards, KWV’s Cruxland Gin is an exciting addition to this year’s festival.
Cruxland was inspired by a trip KWV’s Brandy Master took to the Kalahari Desert and founded from the discovery of a rare Kalahari Truffle. Although the fungus is aesthetically displeasing, it provides a unique symphony of flavour when combined with lemon, honeybush, juniper, cardamom, coriander, aniseed, and rooibos.
Rhino Beetle Gin
Formed from the finest ingredients Limpopo has to offer, this delicate, handcrafted range of gins are best enjoyed with a classic tonic.
Rhino Beetle Gin’s range is fruity and flavourful with 6 unique combinations; Strawberry & Mango, Cotton Candy, Honey, Hibiscus, Naartjie, and their most popular flavour, Turkish Delight.
Cape Town Gin
Cape Town Gin was a favourite amongst festival-goers last year and will be returning to the Lowveld Gin Festival this year with their all-new S.I.N. cocktails.
The range contains the popular Pink Lady, Rooibos Gin, and Classic Dry Gin. Cape Town Gin’s are inspired to reflect the bio-diversity and rich culture of the iconic Mother City.
This London Dry style gin draws its inspiration from the Afromontane forest in Knysna and its resident Phantom Moth. Phantom Gin is handcrafted from locally-sourced botanicals and infused with natural fulvic trace minerals that lend to its earthy colour and taste.
Phantom Gin is distilled by experts, Lucy Beard & Leigh Lisk of Hope on Hopkins Distillery in Cape Town. Described as ‘soft, enchanting nose with juniper and unique hints of wood and spices’ and ‘sweet nuances of caramelised orange with a herbaceous minty aftertaste’ on the palate.
McKruger “Die Volstruis” Gin
Collen and Stella McKruger are the two creatives behind Die Volstruis. Their gin journey began just 2 years ago when their love for cooking, spices, and experimenting led them to distillery.
Expect fresh botanical flavours like wild pepper, locally sourced Granny Smith apples, and Madagascan vanilla. The McKruger’s advise a basil leaf, cinnamon stick, or orange slice to enhance the experience.
Monks Gin will be a new addition to the local lineup this year. These award-winning gins are handcrafted in small batches using a hybrid artisianal that creator, Nic, designed and named after his mother Jeniffer.
Experience all three flavours; Monks Mysterium, Monks Medella and Monks Mary Jane. Both Medella and Mary Jane won awards at the World Gin Awards this year for Best SA Classic Gin and Best SA Contemporary Gin.
Black Mountain Gin
The Swartberg Pass and Mountains had a large influence on flavours and ingredients for this Classic Dry style Karoo gin. Using only the finest local ingredients and a traditional old Cape Pot Still method, the gin is triple distilled and oh so smooth.
Black Mountain Gin is known for its floral tones emanating from the juniper berries, citrus zest, rose petal, elderflower, and wild anise flowers used in its creation. Don’t forget to try both gins; Karoo Dry and Karoo Flora.
Contrary to popular belief, it’s not all about the gin! Also included in the event will be local food stalls, and family-friendly activities such as face-painting, jumping castles, pony rides, and plenty of other excitement. Adding to the sensory feast is a star-studded live entertainment lineup with The Kiffness, Bad Peter, and Dan Patiankay to name a few.
Located just 30 minutes away, Nut Grove Manor in White River is an ideal base from which to enjoy the festival while also taking advantage of other local activities and landmarks such as the Kruger National Park and the Panorama Route. With 8 Deluxe Suites, 2 Family Suites, a pool, on-site restaurant, and gorgeous grounds, Nut Grove is ready to welcome you. Bookings can be made online or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
